An epic day and night!

Dear Friends,

As we approach the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, we’re reminded of nature’s most dramatic play on darkness and light.

For a few moments, daytime will plunge into total darkness, an occurrence as rare as it is captivating. This spectacle brings to mind an old story of oversight turned into an opportunity within our own family.

A few years back, when we forgot about a Tooth Fairy visit, my eldest daughter quickly stepped in. She crafted a thoughtful note to her sister, explaining the oversight and offering a strawberry refresher gift card as a creative make-up for the missed visit. This sweet gesture transformed an epic fail into a now humorous and lasting memory of grace and connection.

Sometimes, we may stumble, miss a detail, or confront a deadline that seems insurmountable. And, it's the support system we've built—our family, friends, and recovery community—that holds us in the light and propels us forward. The eclipse mirrors this experience, reminding us that darkness is not permanent but a passage to the next phase of light. It’s particularly resonant for those of us navigating and supporting SUD (Substance Use Disorder) recovery, acknowledging that at times we may fail to support others through their journeys.

May the upcoming eclipse serve as a reminder: after darkness, there is always light. As we acknowledge the missed moments, let’s lean on each other, and move forward with renewed peace and hope.

In calm connection,

Kristin Onderdonk

This Week’s Connect to Calm Pro Tip: Flip Script

let’s use a simple tapping Tap Into Heart to shift from self-criticism to support and resilience.

  1. Find somewhere comfortable to sit or quietly sit in your heart's presence.

  2. Tap your fingertips over the collarbone tapping point nearest your heart.

  3. With intention speak a script that feels light and also true such as…

    • What matters is what I do next.

    • Mistakes don't define me—they refine me.

    • Support is all around. Seen and unseen.

    • I am worthy of support and creative solutions.

    • I'm ready to rise, brighter than before.

  4. Take a deep breath. Feel the shift. Smile at your resilience.

I’d love to hear from you!
